New Restaurant Openings and News – September 2022

A restaurant at the Royal Opera House opens to the public, a new steak and seafood place opens in Soho, a Michelin starred chef opens at Hotel Cafe Royal and a couple of new additions to London’s excellent Japanese restaurant scene.

Piazza at the Royal Opera House

Covent Garden restaurant, Piazza at the Royal Opera House, relaunches on Tuesday 27th September.

Previously open only to ticket holders, Piazza is now open to all, offering a menu of seasonal, modern British dishes, refreshed interiors and fifth floor terrace with fantastic views of Covent Garden.

Milk Beach Soho

Queen’s Park Australian restaurant, Milk Beach, is opening a new site in Soho on 20 September.


Milk Beach Soho will open in a stunning space with high ceilings, an abundance of natural light and a large outdoor courtyard.

Dishes on the menu will include grilled prawns, fermented chilli butter; Grilled oyster mushrooms, fermented mushroom glaze, macadamia hummus; Whole deep-fried seabass with nam jim jaew; and belted Galloway bone-in ribeye, smoked bone marrow.

The Palm House

The Palm House, “a tropical oasis blending Cuban cool and Miami’s iconic Clubhouses of the 1930s”, opens in Victoria on 29th September.

Housed within Victoria’s Nova development, The Palm House will have a dedicated daiquiri bar and serve a mixture of small and large plates from Mahi Mahi ceviche to a signature Cubano sandwich.

Block Soho

Block Soho opened in St. Anne’s Court in Soho in late August, serving ‘steaks, chops and seafood’ in a 120 cover space formerly occupied by Zelman Meats.

Menu highlights include smoked pulled pork, sourdough toast, apple; English shellfish cocktail (with prawns & crayfish tails); and Longhorn beef carpaccio, shaved Parmesan.

Sunday roasts will also feature on the menu on Sundays.

Bantof

A new restaurant and cocktail bar called Bantof will open in Soho on September 7.

Pied a Terre’s Asimakis Chanoitis has assisted with the menu development at the new space, which will have a menu of sharing plates.

Alex Dilling at Hotel Cafe Royal

Hotel Cafe Royal near Piccadilly Circus has a new fine dining restaurant with only 34 covers.

Chef Alex Dilling comes from The Greenhouse and he’ll be serving a menu of contemporary French cuisine.

KOYN

KOYN, a modern Japanese restaurant from Samyukta and Dinesh Nair will open on Grosvenor Square on September 21st.

One the lower ground you’ll find “Magma” with a dark design and focus on robata grilling, while “Midori” on the ground floor is designed to look much lighter and will focus on sushi.

Restaurant St Barts

This new City restaurant, close to St Paul’s, will offer a 15-course tasting menu with ‘hyper-seasonal’ British ingredients.

Example dishes will include Wagyu bellini with Exmoor caviar; Native blue lobster with fermented red peppers and British XO sauce; and poached cod with preserved Wiltshire truffle.

Mayha

The latest Japanese omakase restaurant opening in London is Mayha from Beirut-based restaurant group Nothing But Love.

The Marylebone restaurant will have a menu changing with the seasons in the main room, and a hidden courtyard where you’ll be able to order food from the restaurant’s raw bar.
