Two new pubs with proper restaurants in Mayfair and a new St John in Marylebone – read our guide to the best restaurants opening in London this October.

St John Marylebone

St John Marylebone, Fergus Henderson’s third restaurant, will be an all-day restaurant, starting the day with doughnuts and Champagne, before moving on to a blackboard menu with daily specials for lunch and dinner.

The Barley Mow, Mayfair

The latest pub from chef Ben Tish and the Cubitt House group, The Barley Mow, has opened on Duke Street in Mayfair.

The pub offers real ales and well-priced wines alongside a menu of Scotch eggs, pulled beef fritters with anchovies, seasonal oysters and sausage rolls.

The main restaurant is on the first floor of the pub offering dishes such as soused mackerel, fennel, cucumber and crème fraiche, roasted celeriac, beetroot and lentil cottage pie, and native breed beef pie and mash with parsley sauce.

The Audley, Mayfair

Hospitality group Artfarm is behind The Audley, a large public house and restaurant on Mount Street.

The Audley Public House is at ground level while Mount St. Restaurant will take up the first floor.

Straker’s

Behind the food is MasterChef winner Dhruv Baker who’s teamed up with ex-Ledbury chef Ben Floyd to come up with a British/Basque menu.

Caso do Frango, Mayfair

Portuguese restaurant, Casa do Frango, will open its third site on Heddon Street on 14th October.

The new site has a street level terrace, a light and airy dining room, a bar called The Green Room and two private dining rooms.

Other Portuguese dishes on the menu include Iberico Pork Croquettes and Bacalhau Fritters, African Rice, Batatas Fritas and a Montanheira Salad.

Sparrow

Following the successful debut of Sparrow Italia in Los Angeles in 2021, U.S. hospitality group Noble 33 will now launch its first international Sparrow restaurant in Mayfair on 18 October.

The menu will include fresh seafood, homemade pastas and a selection of Mediterranean classics.

The Libertine

The vaults of London’s Royal Exchange are being transformed into The Libertine, a huge new 400 capacity venue.

The Libertine will comprise a large bar, lively drinking and dining spaces, two private dining rooms including a whiskey vault for paired whiskey experiences, and a main restaurant.

The Holland

The Holland, a new pub and dining room from chef Max de Nahlik, opened on Earl’s Court Road in Kensington in the middle of September.

The menu includes spiced brown crab on toast; pork collar steak, greengage chutney, kohlrabi & beetroot; and hake, piperade, fennel salad
