From the quaint meandering pathways that lead you to its doors, to the truly breathtaking views as you enter the hotel to the stylish, sexy rooms and the lovely pool, the Six Senses Douro Valley is a stunning hotel.<\/p>\n

The converted 19th-century manor house is positioned high on a hill overlooking the vine-covered rolling hills of the Douro Valley and the river below.<\/p>\n

The rooms are spacious, light-filled and contemporary with large floor-to-ceiling windows offering views over the vineyards or a large private courtyard.<\/p>\n

Rooms are designed in sleek greys and dark woods, creating a stylish residential feel.<\/p>\n

My favourite place to stay is the Vineyard Pool Villa set in the vineyards, which has been converted from the old cellars and includes a loft bedroom, private pool and garden.<\/p>\n

The main restaurant offers a contemporary dining space along with a sun-drenched terrace.<\/p>\n

The menu celebrates local produce and the harvest from the hotel\u2019s home-grown, organic produce.<\/p>\n

The large spa, which has 10 treatment rooms and an indoor pool offers all the signature Six Senses spa experiences.<\/p>\n

But since you’re in one of Europe’s oldest wine regions, try the complete grape rejuvenation: an antioxidant body treatment that aims to use the health benefits of grapes with an exfoliation, body wrap and scalp massage.<\/p>\n

Follow this up with a wine tasting in the hotel’s extensive wine library or, better still, take your wine outside and sit by the stunning pool with glorious views of the Douro Valley.<\/p>\n

I loved my stay at Six Senses Douro Valley – it’s a beautiful hotel in a wonderful location where you can tour the local vineyards, improve your wine knowledge, or simply sit by the pool and enjoy a relaxing holiday with good food and wine.<\/p>\n

What could be better?<\/p>\n

It’s a short flight to Porto and then a 90 minute drive to this sanctuary, making it an excellent long weekend break destination or combine it with a few days exploring the beautiful city of Porto.<\/p>\n
