There are some hotels that you know you’re going to love even before stepping foot inside.<\/p>\n

One such place for me is Finca Cortesin in Casares in Southern Spain, about 30 minutes outside Marbella.<\/p>\n

Having stayed nearby shortly after the hotel opened, I spent a long while regretting not joining friends on an exploration of the area where they happened upon a beautiful hotel called Finca Cortesin that featured in conversations for months afterwards.<\/p>\n

(This is on par with the time I decided to cancel my reservation at Noma shortly before it was named best restaurant in the world\u2026)<\/p>\n

But back to Finca Cortesin and back to a hotel that is absolutely gorgeous from every angle.<\/p>\n

Is it the secluded setting, the ceremonious but subtle entrance, the grandiose architecture? Whatever it is, when you arrive at Finca Cortesin, you know you\u2019ve arrived somewhere special.<\/p>\n

The reception area leads on to a palatial courtyard that feels both Spanish and Moorish in design, a style that continues throughout the hotel with hand carved ceilings and floors, marble furniture, antiques and fountains all adding to the atmosphere.<\/p>\n

Finca Cortesin has all the facilites of a large resort \u2013 it has three swimming pools (all of which are gorgeous, one of which has the mountains as stunning backdrop and one which is a 50m Olympic pool), a tennis court, an amazing spa and a world-class golf course.<\/p>\n

In fact, the all-suite hotel only has 67 rooms, with the smallest at 52sqm and all with a terrace.<\/p>\n

Rooms are elegant, spacious and effortlessly luxurious, designed in pale colours with traditional and plush furniture.<\/p>\n

There are also a number of villas, ranging from 2 to 5 bedrooms,\u00a0 that are ideal for larger families or friends travelling together.<\/p>\n

The hotel’s signature restaurant is Kabuki Raw, a Japanese restaurant where you can try dishes such as red prawns cooked over binchotan charcoal with yuzu foam and belly of tuna with tomato and toasted bread.<\/p>\n

For traditional Spanish cuisine, dine at El Jardin de Lutz with its gorgeous terrace surrounded by olive trees looking out to the beautifully landscaped gardens.<\/p>\n

The vast spa has seven treatment rooms offering a range of face and body treatments, a fitness centre, sauna and steam room, and an indoor swimming pool for when the weather takes a turn for the worse.<\/p>\n

Finca Cortesin also features an impressive beach club only 1 km from the hotel, with another gorgeous pool to add to the list, this time right on the beach.<\/p>\n

Finca Cortesin is one of those rare hotels that manages to be both grand and intimate; luxurious yet subtle.<\/p>\n

With a two hour flight from London to Malaga and then a 40 minute drive from the airport, Finca Cortesin makes an excellent choice for a long weekend, but staying a week or more would be even better.<\/p>\n
