MNKY HSE

We visit vowel-less MNKY HSE, a lively restaurant and bar in Mayfair.

Attracting as much attention for its late night parties as it does for its South-American fusion dishes, MNKY HSE in Mayfair is a place for those who want to see and be seen.

Playful decadence is the name of the game – lighting is seductively low, music journeys from laidback house to liquid drum and bass as the night goes on, and napkins come topped with individual primate figurines reflecting the eclectic nature of the venue.

From an eight page cocktail list, we recommend trying the house cocktails – the deliciously tangy Catrina, with tequila, fresh lime, clementine puree, cloudberry liqueur, elderflower and vinegar, is the perfect pick me up.

Or if you fancy something a bit sweeter, the Skin Vision is a tantalisingly fruity combination of red berry vodka, passion fruit and cranberry, apple juice and lemon.

Onto the food, and the extensive menu combines South American and Asian ingredients and techniques, including Wagyu tostadas with pico de gallo, guacamole and soured cream.

Particularly worth shouting about is the quality and variety of seafood dishes dotted throughout the menu.

The hamachi tiradito, combining fresh yellowtail tuna, smooth sweet potato purée and the umami of black summer truffle is not to be missed.

As the night draws in, indulgent dishes like papas huancaina, a twist on Peru’s staple appetiser of potatoes in a punky, spicy cheese sauce, is a fine example of ‘foods to tuck into when you’re tipsy’.

And trust us, with cocktails this good, you’ll need it.
