Silversands Grenada

Silversands is a stunning contemporary hotel in Grenada, ideal for couples looking for a romantic, understated holiday in modern, sleek surroundings.

Over the next few weeks I will be posting hotel reviews and travel guides for some of my favourite and recently visited hotels and destinations.

As we endure the most turbulent times many of us have ever faced, I’m hoping this will provide some welcome relief and give you inspiration for where you’d like to travel when we can all travel freely again. Until that time, stay safe and well.

Best wishes,

Emyr

Silversands in Grenada

Silversands Grenada is a modern, sleek hotel with an understated vibe in the Grenadines.

On arrival, you are greeted by a chic, minimalist design before entering the lobby to see the huge main swimming pool in front of you (the longest in the Caribbean at a whopping 100m).

This dramatic centrepiece to the hotel takes your eyes straight down to the sea in front of you. Stunning.

Natural materials dominate in the design – think limestone, marble and walnut.

The 43 rooms are located in two three-storey blocks and have the same contemporary look as the rest of the hotel.

An original work of art in every room from the Egyptian owners’ private collection helps add some colour and individuality.

All have a terrace or balcony, but I recommend getting one on the top floor with the best sea views.

If budget allows, the best accommodation would be one of the beachfront villas.

Each villa has a central living space with dining area, lounging area and a separate kitchen should you want to cook for yourself (or get a chef in to cook for you).

The main draw of the villas is the large private pool they have and their beachfront location – you can almost dive straight from pool to sea.

The villas feel so private that you might forget you are in a hotel – perfect for totally getting away from it all with all the hotel’s amenities only a phone call away.

Asiatique restaurant at Silversands hotel

The main restaurant, Asiatique, offers modern pan-Asian dishes (with a focus on Thai mainly) using ingredients from the island.

The beachside Grenadian Grill serves a more casual lunch of salads, fresh fish and burgers but becomes more upscale for dinner where there’s usually a live singer or band for a fun, upbeat evening.

While the rest of the island is somewhat lacking in good restaurants, there’s a nice casual restaurant a few seconds’ walk up the beach called Coconut Beach, which is perfect for simple fresh fish and a bottle of Carib beer at lunch.

Life is about balance, after all.

Silversands is located on Grand Anse beach – a beautiful but rather rustic beach whose charm lies in being a hub for locals as well as tourists.

The house car is a Tesla, which is a subtle nod to the hotel’s sustainability aspirations and credentials.

Silversands is ideal for couples looking for a romantic, understated holiday in modern, beautiful surroundings.

Grenada is a direct 10 hour flight from London (there is a pit stop in St Lucia but you don’t get off the plane) or a quick 4 hour flight from New York.

I flew to Barbados and had a couple of days there before taking an hour flight to Grenada, which is another option.
