New Restaurant Openings and News – July 2016

This month is all about adding a sibling with BAO, Picture and Rok Smokehouse all opening second sites. The Counter at The Delaunay opens late on weekends and Aqua Shard celebrates 100 years of Roald Dahl with a new afternoon tea offering.

BAO in Fitzrovia

BAO will open a second restaurant on Windmill Street, Fitzrovia, on 6 July.

The restaurant will offer a new extended menu featuring both established BAO favourites and a number of new and unusual dishes, alongside a more comprehensive list of cocktails, wine and sake.

Aqua Shard Celebrates Roald Dahl 100

To mark the centenary of the birth of the much loved author, Roald Dahl, Aqua shard is paying tribute by creating an afternoon tea menu inspired by Dahl’s most well-known and well-loved characters and books.

The afternoon tea, served in Charlie’s Great Glass Elevator, will be available 4 July – 30 September, Monday to Friday between 1-4 p.m.

Galvin at Windows

Galvin at Windows is running a ‘Flavours of Marseille’ menu in July created by head chef Joo Woo.

The menu will reflect flavours of the Mediterranean and include regional classic dishes such as bouillabaisse, turbot and seabass.

West End restaurant, Picture, is opening a new restaurant in Marylebone in July.

Picture Marylebone hopes to retain the warm hospitality and good value dining that the original restaurant is known for. Alongside an à la carte menu, a six course seasonal tasting menu will be available at £45 per head.

Casita Andina

Opening in Soho, Casita Andina is a new Peruvian restaurant from Ceviche founder Martin Morales.

Casita Andina is inspired by Peruvian ‘picanterias’, family-run, traditional restaurants that serve the local community and travellers.

Rök Smokehouse and Bar

Rök smokehouse and bar will open their second restaurant in Islington this July.

The new opening will follow on from the success of the first restaurant in Shoreditch, which is known for its simple Nordic influenced dishes.

Sushi and Robata

Sushi and Robata by Genji at Whole Foods Market, Kensington has undergone a refurbishment and reopened earlier this week. The extensive menu features some excellent sushi.

Genji was founded in 1997 and operates over 158 sushi bar locations throughout the UK and the USA.

The Counter at The Delaunay

The Counter at The Delaunay is now open until late on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, transforming into a Viennese wine bar, offering a selection of wines by the glass, beers, cocktails and a range of Austrian snacks.

Hatchetts

Hatchetts opens on Friday, 8 July in Mayfair’s Shepherd Market.

Hatchetts Head Chef, Andrew Evans, has spent the last 20 years working alongside some of this country’s greatest chefs including Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Wareing and Angela Hartnett.

The ground floor bar will serve a range of cocktails, small plates and salads with the lower ground floor dining room serving high-quality modern British cooking.

Sardine

Located next to the contemporary art gallery Parasol, just off City Road, Sardine is a buzzy, no-nonsense restaurant.

Dishes are fresh and simple, using ‘farmhouse’ cooking, and ingredients are authentically sourced from France, the Basque Country and Italy.

Carousel

From 12-23 July, chef Jeremy Chan will be taking to the Carousel kitchens offering a taste of his soon-to-open West African inspired London restaurant iKOYi.

iKOYi – his first solo venture – will showcase the skills he developed in these kitchens as he taps into the culinary heritage of Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal.

From 26 July-6 August, Stockholm-based restaurant Yolo will join Carousel. Head chef Jonas Lagerström and his team serve up familiar Swedish ingredients at the restaurant, rooting dishes in the local and sustainable while equally embracing flavours from far further afield.
